Francesca On Film #0000
Welcome to my monthly newsletter. I will be sharing about my work and my creative process.
It may be a stupid name. It was chosen quite superficially. I was starting an instagram account solely for my analogue shots – back when I thought it made sense having a clear divide between analogue and digital.
Since then so much has changed around and within myself. About five years later, my views on photography and art, how I place myself in front and really inside of these enormous containers, how I relate with others and their work, have all gone through a big shift. Have I finally become an adult? Maybe even an artist?
One thing hasn't changed, a simple thought once heard on a podcast through the lips of E. Gilbert talking about her why, and if I recall correctly, why she writes: "it’s just more interesting".
Photography, creativity, diving into self awareness and the struggle to be more present, compassionate, all of this searching, exploring, discovering, it's just more interesting to me than other things. And so I pursue it, whether it is successful or not, good or bad, whether I struggle or sail smoothly, progress or regress, it will always be, simply more interesting.
So, as of today this name – Francesca On Film – has taken on a slightly different meaning. Whether on film or on paper, image or writing, it's certainly me "on there", and through expressing myself I have grown, learnt and understood so much.
In these past five years I’ve had many interesting conversations about these topics and found that artists and creatives often struggle with similar things. I enjoy reading about the creative process and I am grateful when people take the time to share their reflections and insights. Each individual experience is valuable.
This is my way of participating in – and possibly contributing to – this collective endeavour of building and sharing knowledge.
This is my monthly Substack.
I am looking forward to sharing, learning and growing through this platform.
